A Protective Factors Framework
Idaho AEYC is a national leader in the development of the Strengthening Families trainings.
Strengthening Families is a strategy to increase family strengths, enhance child development and reduce child abuse and neglect. It focuses on building five (5) Protective Factors in families, providing parents with what they need to parent effectively even under stress. This framework can be integrated into any existing programs, strategies, systems and community opportunities. The five factors are:
Idaho AEYC is committed to "training trainers" in Strengthening Families throughout the state and nationally. Trainings include the basic Toolbox Training and a web based advanced level training. Idaho AEYC has also developed a Parent Workshop Manual, which includes 19 easy-to-follow lesson plans designed to bring the protective factor framework directly to parents, as well as a child sexual abuse prevention training called Responsible Adults/Safe Children.
