Organizations offering parenting classes on a regular basis


Boise School District

The Boise School District has developed a parent education program to offer support and skills to assist parents or guardians with raising happy and responsible kids. Classes are offered throughout the city's school buildings at different start times throughout the semester and are taught by certified school counselors who have extensive training and experience. Classes include:
  • Homework without Tears
  • Parenting with Love & Logic
  • Positive Discipline for Single Parents
  • Internet Safety
  • S.T.E.P.
  • Workshop for Parents of Gifted Kids

The Learning Lab

The Learning Lab is a private, nonprofit, computer-assisted learning center for adults and adolescents over the age of sixteen and for families with young children. Students receive basic skills instruction including mathematics, reading, writing, spelling, and GED preparation in a comfortable, confidential environment. The Learning Lab offers Preschoolers & Parents as Partners (PPP), a family literacy program that includes adult education, preschool education, Parent and Child Together (PACT) time and parenting education. A Spanish language translator attends the parenting classes when appropriate. PPP classes are open to any adult seeking to improve their basic skills or English language skills and their preschool children. Other classes offered include Adult Basic Skills and English Language Learners. Payment is on a sliding scale and there is no charge for children whose parents attend family literacy classes.

Meridian Joint School District

The Meridian School District offers parenting classes on a regular basis. Classes are offered throughout the city's school buildings at different start times throughout the semester. A sampling of classes offered includes:

Parents Encouraging Parents

Parents Encouraging Parents (PEP) is a non-profit organization consisting of parents and professionals concerned about the quality of family life. Its purpose is to promote the health of families in all aspects: physical, mental, social, and emotional; strengthen family structures; provide education in health, safety and nutrition; increase parenting skills; prevent child abuse and neglect; decrease future incidence of juvenile delinquency and substance abuse; and provide a support system for parents.

PEP provides online parenting classes ranging from the techniques of building love and showing respect to your children to dealing with the strong-willed or out-of-control kids. Our discussions cover: joint custody, divorce, separation, step parenting, stepchildren, visitation, addiction, alcohol and drug abuse.

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center

St. Alphonsus offers a variety of childbirth, family and parenting, and wellness classes on a regular basis. The web site lists those currently available.

St. Luke's Regional Medical Center

Call Parenting Education at 381-1200 to register or for more information. Classes are offered at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center or St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center on a regular basis. Some classes are offered free and some have fees. The web site lists those currently available.

IPUL is a statewide, non-profit Parent training and Information Center dedicated to serving families of children with disabilities birth through age 21, offering information, one-on-one assistance, and workshops to parents, professionals and individuals dealing with disability free of charge.

Parenting Books and Videos

Treasure Valley public libraries offer a wide variety of parenting books and magazines, children's books and resources, and trained staff to help you locate what you are looking for. They also offer special programs, including story hours for children and their parents, special events and some offer parenting classes or special parent/toddler programs. Call or visit your local library web site for program scheduling.
